The U.S. Census Bureau released a report in 2009 that contains single parent statistics of custodial mothers and fathers and their child support as of 2007.
Here are some of the things they found:
- 21.8 million children (26.3% of all children) under the age of 21 are raised by 13.7 million single parents.
- 24.6% of custodial parents live below the poverty line and 18.2% of those receiving child support remain under the poverty line.
- 82.6% of custodial parents were mothers. Only 17.4% were fathers.
- 49.8% of custodial mothers are employed full time. 71.7% of custodial fathers are employed full time.
- 27% of custodial single mothers and their children live in poverty. 12.9% of custodial single fathers and their children live in poverty.
- 56.6% of custodial parents have only one child.
These are just a few of the single parent statistics that I found interesting. You can see the entire custodial mothers and fathers and their child support report here.
